Joe Pool Lake is a fresh water impoundment located in North Texas.The lake was named after Joe Pool, a congressman from the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. Construction of the lake began in 1977 and was completed in December 1985. Impoundment of water began in January 1986 and the lake was filled by June 1989.
Joe Pool Lake supplies the public with several parks, paved boat ramps, parking lots, public swimming areas, and two marinas. There are four parks located within the lake's perimeters; Britton Park, Loyd Park, Lynn Creek Park, and Cedar Hill State Park. Lynn Creek Marina is not only a marina but also a restaurant, located on the north side of the lake. Next door to the marina lies the very popular Oasis restaurant, which features outdoor dining and live weekend entertainment overlooking the lake's waters. There is also the Tangle Ridge Golf Course, a championship golf course located next to the lake. The course was ranked the "12th best golf course" in the state of Texas by Golf Digest. Tangle Ridge has something for every level of player with each hole varying in length, bunkering and style. Fishing is also a popular sport along the lake. Fish species in the lake include Florida Largemouth, Fingerling Bass, Fry Bluegill, Coppernose, Bluegill, Coppernose, Catfish, Channel, Fry Shad, Threadfin, Crappie, Sunfish, and many more species. There are great day use and overnight recreation facilities open to the public. There is only one free boat ramp on the lake located in Britton Park. The Cedar Hill State Park has the second most campsites of any facility in the state and also offers group shelters, lighted fishing piers, and boat ramps. |
